Salem Middle School is fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the 5th year in a row.

SMS opened in September 1988 on a 34 acre site as a junior high school housing grades 7-9. In the fall of 1993, Salem Middle adopted the middle school concept, housing grades 6-8.  Renovations to Salem Middle were completed during the summers of 1999, 2000, and 2004.
