Parents, Teachers, Students, and Friends:

Welcome to Salem Middle School, home of the “Sharks.” Salem Middle was founded in 1988 and is located in the Kempsville section of Virginia Beach. We serve approximately 1100 students with more than 120 faculty and staff members.

The faculty, staff, parents, and community of Salem Middle seek to provide the highest quality education for our young citizens. Our motto, “Shaping Tomorrow’s Future,” is a shared commitment and evident in our daily practices and work with students. This shared commitment is also present in our mission statement which pledges that, “in cooperation with the family and the community, we will educate and provide each student with the opportunity to realize his/her potential and develop into an ethical, contributing member of a changing society.”

Salem Middle is proud to be recognized as a fully accredited school by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our success is attributed to the strong foundations established in the areas of staff, student, and community involvement, high expectations, strong student attendance, and outstanding instruction.

I challenge each student to become an active member of the school community, strive to exceed his or her academic potential, and exhibit the highest standards of citizenship. I look forward to working with each of you this school year.

Principal

Greetings from Salem Middle School, home of the Sharks!  Our school is a great place to be where each student is encouraged to succeed.  We have highly dedicated teachers and staff members whose exemplary commitment to education is parallel to none. Our academic and extra-curricular activities are geared to prepare our students for the challenges in a constantly evolving global society.  We have excellent parental involvement and school-community relationships.  My daily interaction with our seventh & eighth graders has provided me valuable insight in motivating them to achieve.

Ms. Napies
Assistant Principal

I want to welcome all students to Salem Middle School, but especially the rising sixth graders! You are starting a new stage of school and life where you will have more exciting opportunities to guide and decide the course of both your personal and academic progress as you begin the transition to young adulthood. A new world of possibilities is opening to you, and along with that come new responsibilities and risks. More than ever before, you are responsible for guiding your own ship, and the teachers, staff, and administration at Salem Middle School, together with your parents and the community, are here to assist you in making decisions and choices that will lead to your achievement as you navigate the new waters. Bon voyage!
